Incorrect information on how to get refund

Installed my turbo tax mid March. It always upgrades then gets right to work. Tax return went smoothly. I was given the option of being mailed a check or direct deposit to my bank account. I choose a mailed check. I recently received notification that they couldn't do my direct deposit. Partly because I didn't put that info. ..I wanted a check. So I called Turbo tax..their response, "we are not responsible for what the IRS does." What? I file my taxes through Turbo tax now to find out they truly dont stand behind their tax preparation and are not up to date. The IRS started virtual only payments in September 2025. I paid $55 to use this and now do not trust them.

Felt like a scam: Paid for Deluxe only to find out it's useless for non-residents

I feel completely misled by TurboTax. The program pushed me to pay for a Deluxe upgrade without ever checking if it could handle my non-resident status. I only found out it was incompatible after I paid. When I tried to get a refund, I had to fight through a useless AI and wait hours for a human agent, only to be told "no." Other platforms like FreeTaxUSA are honest from the start about what they can and can’t do. TurboTax just takes your money first and leaves you stranded.

Turbo tax will scam you

They used deceptive practices on their website forcing upgrades to the highest level costing almost $300 with no option to use the low coat file option before filing your taxes with them. When called out on it, they refused to make it right.

Signed up for the deluxe expert tax…

Signed up for the deluxe expert tax advisor who "no matter how complicated your tax situation is, your tax expert will solve it for $150".After making an appointment, the tax expert called. It took about 15 minutes to set up screensharing and another hour to get absolutely nothing done. During the call, the tax expert constantly muted herself, so I always assumed that the call was cut. One time, she forgot to mute herself, and she was talking to someone. I assume it was to her kid who was crying in the background.During that time, she was never interested in the tax situation that I am in, which I would like to have information about. So I told her the situation, but she did not react to this at all. After an hour, the result was that I should file for an extension. I asked her, how do I do that, and which forms to fill out. She could not answer that and suggested another shortcut, which would have led immediately to committing tax fraud.I would not recommend TurboTax at all. If you read the IRS documents, you will know more in less time invested. For simple tax returns, sure. But do not pay to talk to a "tax expert" who knows nothing.

Turbotax promo for 2026

Turbotax is running a promo for 2026, where Full Service taxes done by a 'pro' is only $150. On my apt., all I got was a text and a chat box, and I waited and waited. No one came on. I asked customer service to call me, and said they assigned someone and they would contact me. Waited 2 days and no one. I reached out again and was assigned to another 'Tax Pro' who started off w/ a nice introduction, and then no response, except the one time asking me for more documents. After wasting 10 days, I learned she didn't even start on my taxes. I tried to change another 'Pro' online, and it kicked me out of the 'Full Service' option, so I have to start all over again. This is a terrible, overpriced self service company who 2X their price in the last several years.

TurboTax

TurboTax used deceptive language/presentation to trick me into paying them more money ($300) than I’m getting back from my tax return. Horrible, deceitful company

Hard to recognize upgrades leading to unexpected charges

I feel like the software asks the same questions over and over which significantly impacts efficiency.WORSE YET...Unfortunately, I do not feel Turbo Tax is very honest about what you are going to be charged while you are in the process of completing your taxes. I am certain I selected the DIY option at the very start and was careful to never upgrade or ask for expert assistance and I still got charged $180 to file my taxes. When I spoke with a representative, they doubled down on the incorrect accusation that I had asked for expert assistance from the start. They told me I had to clear my tax return (that I completed) and start over. This, unfortunately, sets up an ultimatum for the user that holds your time investment and tax return hostage. You either have to give up the time you have already invested by starting over, or you have to pay the amount Turbo Tax seemingly took the liberty of upgrading you to in order to finish your return. If I ever upgraded it was not intentional, and it felt like the software was developed to make it easy to upgrade without realizing it until the end. Of course by that point, it is time to pay up or clear your return and start over...neither of which I expected when I started using their program.

I’ve used TurboTax for the past 15…

I’ve used TurboTax for the past 15 years. This year was totally extraordinarily different and not in a good way. I spent four hours trying to sign in to the correct product – deluxe do it yourself. The start screen opened with premier, including a tax expert for $199. I tried to get help because unlike in prior years when the various product options were available on the start screen. They weren’t. I’m ever I spoke to for three hours. Somehow I found out today had signed me up for basic with an expert, which would not cover our investment income. Additionally, I was asked for payment on the very first screen and the program skipped to review near the end before I entered any numbers pertaining to income so I wasted three hours yesterday. Today I signed on again, but the program went right to review there was a little picture of a tax expert in the upper left corner with deluxe written under her picture. I called their specialist, someone working from home who told me on her end I was signed up for basic with an expert, and I spent hours on the phone with her as she tried to refund my money for the basic product and upgrade me to deluxe, but wasn’t able to do that and finally dropped our call. When I called back, I asked to speak to a higher level technician and can call back from the brashest non-interactive screeching person who seemed to know her way around the multitude of software glitches in the program. However, the automatic importing function with my financial institution didn’t work and I constantly had to capture my 1099 information manually, download it and imported into TurboTax . I spent three hours listening to this person yell at me. with no time to consider what I was clicking on and she knew nothing about Tax law trying to find where to enter my estimated payments for 2025 under state taxes. I had to scream to get her to listen to how estimated taxes were paid to the federal government the scrolling bar on the right side of the screen was missing requiring me to use buttons on my laptop – the up arrow and the down arrow keys, I never used before. I never did complete and print the return because I couldn’t finish before my husband who prepared dinner was calling me to eat. I had the phone on speaker and it was a couple of feet away from me, but this woman was so loud and obnoxious I actually told her a couple of times to shut up. It was like she was getting paid for moving along as fast as possible. This experience turn me into a nervous wreck in three long days. Also, I need someone to review the information that was entered at warp speed because I knew I couldn’t trust this agents tax knowledge so I will return to the site and ask for help from the Tax expert since I’m supposedly entitled to do that but just couldn’t stay on the phone another minute. If there were negative symbols rather than just five stars, I would have entered those as my descriptive of this harrowing experience that I will never again endure. Who ever TurboTax hired to change their 2025 tax year programming should never again work in the profession. I don’t know that person. I only know I hate that person. I did look up the name of the head tech for Intuit. I hope he reads reviews other than the ones on the TurboTax site. I looked at those first, and I can’t imagine who gave this program more than a minimal rating.
