Platform works well, but - not surprisingly - little to no customer support, when you need it.
Overall, the platform works well, though I find that it's not 100% intuitive...the various icons on the page, and what each icon represents.I've tried a few different teachers there, and yeah, definitely the teaching styles and how good they are as a 'teacher', can vary.Actual lessons, and how to Enter a class and then the video/class software, itself, works well.The only issue - as is now the case with many websites/companies - is that...if you have a problem scheduling a class, or with your package of classes already purchased, etc. there is no LIVE Customer Support...no option to speak with a Human over the phone. It's all endless back and forth chat, which is very frustrating...you have to sit there and WAIT for a reply to come through...and...well...as we all know, communication is much more effective over the phone, versus having to explain your issue over 'Chat'. I find it beyond maddening, when companies are making all kinds of profit for doing little work (these platforms essentially pay for themselves, once they are up and running... everything is Automated....), but yet, they provide little to no real 'customer service' when you have an actual problem.

It's very sad because after 5 years of pouring money to this website and god knows how many more years I would have kept on booking lessons.Italki website is not accessible on any browsers on the mobile. Technical support is aware of the problem which are flagged about 6 months ago and the only solution they provided was " install the app".It's so sad that they are forcing people to install the app, making the internet browser unusable.I've got a couple of lessons left in my package then that's it I'm out.I reach out to support 20 times, you go talk to them and come back with a valid solution.I have an Android phone with all the internet browser available!!

I tried to sign up to be a tutor. Computer says no.
I tried to sign up to be a tutor. I failed their ID process for unknown reasons and then my application was rejected forever. No appeal allowed. They are completely inflexible, don't live in the real world and don't care at all about customer service.

Wouldn't recommend.
The platform has some serious issues.The UI is counterintuitive, a lot of the built-in tools barely work properly and the payment window for tutors is so vague that you often don’t get paid when they say you will, which is not great when it’s your income.The warning system is probably the worst part. It can stack multiple infractions from what is essentially a single interaction, and there’s no real room to explain or fix things once it happens. There’s basically no proper recourse.Support doesn’t help much either. Responses can take days and when they do reply it’s mostly copy-paste guideline answers that don’t really address your situation. There doesn’t seem to be any real escalation process, so once you get that standard response, you’re pretty much stuck.It feels like the platform is run on rigid rules and automation rather than common sense, and those rules end up protecting the platform more than the people actually using it. I wouldn’t recommend it, for both students and tutors.

My experience with italki has been so good that I left my German school.
My experience with italki has been great, because I've been able to choose the teachers that I considered would work the best with me, for my current goals, based on their presentation video, and during the classes I discovered that everything they said was true. Also, I can choose the date, time, and duration of my classes, which is very helpful because I can adapt them to my schedule.So far, I have two teachers (I'm learning German), and I have nothing but good things to say about them.
