All clear and straight forward

Everything was explained clearly and the rental process was relatively straight forward. Fortunately, I didn’t encounter any problems whilst using the car. It was the best and cheapest way to hire a car that I’ve ever used in Italy.

Good car, very disappointing customer service

I booked a rental car through DiscoverCars.com near Porto's airport (Portugal).The car itself was perfectly fine: clean, in good condition, and overall a good category. Unfortunately, the check-in experience was very unpleasant.Although I had only made the booking in my name (I had not yet signed anything, paid, or provided final documents), the employee refused to allow my husband to be the main driver unless we paid for an additional driver. This is something I had never experienced before with any other rental company.At that point, I simply said that I would drive myself, which was not an issue at all. However, the employee’s attitude became unnecessarily hostile: he started warning us in a very aggressive way about the consequences if my husband drove the car, speaking about contract violations and very serious consequences, almost as if he assumed we intended to break the rules deliberately.What bothered me most was the tone: when I made it clear that I was perfectly able to drive and fully aware of the contract conditions, I still had the impression that he simply assumed otherwise. I honestly felt an unpleasant undertone of sexism in the way he addressed the situation, which I found disrespectful.He also tried very hard to pressure me into buying additional full coverage insurance, listing every possible accident scenario, including situations not caused by my own driving but by others. When I explained that I had already purchased insurance through DiscoverCars.com, he reacted with visible annoyance and muttered something under his breath.Another confusing point: I was told twice that I would receive an upgraded automatic car, but in the end I was given a Peugeot with manual transmission.So overall: the car was fine, but customer service at pick-up was very disappointing and unnecessarily stressful. I am now waiting to see whether the €1,500 deposit will be refunded within the stated timeframe.

The worst possible car rental agency to go for. They are incredibly inflexible, and their chip reader didn’t work for our credit card so we had to pay with debit which cost us £240 more.

They charged us an extra £760 after we had already paid £450 for the car and insurance. The reason was the named driver was not the same person as the credit card and refused to change the named driver. It is the classic scam company. Ruined the holiday.

Green Motion Manchester - Awful Experience

Green Motion ManchesterI hired a vehicle from Green Motion Manchester between 9th and 18th October 2025, and the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish.The first car, CF74 JJO, broke down on the M5 late at night on 14th October while I was travelling from Dorset to Stockport. I spent over an hour calling both Green Motion (no answer) and the RAC before recovery was finally arranged at 10:15 p.m. Because Green Motion’s policy would not return me to my destination, I had to use my own breakdown cover, arriving back in Stockport at 5:00 a.m.Despite calling more than 25 times the next day, I could not reach anyone. I was eventually told to take a taxi to collect a replacement car (CF74 HLU) and that the fare would be reimbursed — it never was. The replacement car was handed over with almost no fuel, and follow-up calls were ignored.After returning the second car, I was shocked to be charged £412 for alleged damage, based on an undated photo and no signed inspection report. The charge was taken from my credit card without any discussion or authorisation, and notably after my full deposit had already been returned.I have video evidence showing no new damage, and I ultimately had to recover the funds through my credit card provider.This experience raises serious concerns about customer service and transparency. I share it in good faith to help protect others — always record evidence and insist on a signed condition report.
